McCain's Political Death Wish
I find it ironic that Bush's primary challenger in 2000, the guy who was the Republican antethisis to Bush is staking his entire political future (not just his Presidential prospects,) on Bush himself.
McCain's comments this week on the Iraq situation was so amazingly stupid. Of course that market was safe. It's always safe when a US Senator is on the ground surronded by the best defense in the world, that doesn't mean it suddenly turns into the killing fields when that entourage leaves.
McCain has become the Bush candidate. The Republican who is in line with the President's foreign policy. I find it ironic as McCain has always been the maverick. Betting his entire political future on Iraq, he will, if he hasn't already, loose that maverick reputation, which is what essentially is keeping him on good terms with the American people versus other Republicans. To abandon that maverick persona may not only cost him the 2008 Presidential Election, but his Senate seat in 2010 should he choose to run again, and should the Democrats choose to nominate someone like Governor Janet Napolitano or Attorney General Terry Goddard.
My advice to McCain is to run...run like the wind away from this President's foreign policy. The country doesn't only need a new directions, the Republican Party needs one too.
