Years Not Months
Commanders are now saying it will take years, not months, to judge the effectiveness of the troop surge. Temporary, in the administration, is like five years apparently.
Sadly, we don't have years to fix the gargantuan mistakes the administration has made. We need to refocus or energy on Iran, on the Taliban, on Somalia and Southeast Asia. We need to make sure terrorism doesn't rear it's ugly head elsewhere. We cannot afford to be stuck in Iraq for years.
Now, the news broke the other day that more National Guard troops are being sent to Iraq next year, virtually ensuring we'll have a huge troops presence stuck in that godforsaken country for the rest of the decade at least.
And what if it doesn't work? What if it fails? Are we willing to waste five to 10 years of money and man power for a lost cause?
An end needs to be put to this...SOON!
